Note*   John John Bloom Sr. was a well known and respected hunter and pioneer in Clearfield Co. His relationship with the local Indian tribes was probably established during the first winter of their settlement, see recount under William Bloom, Sr. John would go hunting with the indians sometimes for several months at a time. His muzzle loading rifle, was handed down to his youngest son, John I. Bloom.

Note*   William William Bloom Sr. was an infant at the time his parents emigrated to America. While living in New Jersey.
A story handed down by tradition is 'when William Bloom was called to the military service, two men came to notify him. While he was getting his things together to go with them, his wife cast bullets for his muzzle loading gun and after he left, she went to the field to continue the plowing with an oxen team', this was often told by James Ross Caldwell, his grand-son.
William and his family removed from New Jersey about 1785 to Potter Township, Cumberland Co. Pa.(now Centre Co.). He is listed on the assors list for Potter Twp. in 1801. He then removed to Pike Twp., Clearfield Co. Another tradition associated with William Bloom, is that when he came to Clearfield Co. it was initially in the late fall of the year and he came with John, Elizabeth and Benjamin. They built a cabin on a tract that is now known as the Irwin farm. William then went back to Centre Co. to get the remainder of his family but got snowed in. The cabin had a Bear skin for a door. Some indians came along during the winter, found the three youngsteers and fed them throughout the winter.
