Overview

Martha Worthington is enumerated on the 1830 Census one dwelling away from James Anderson, husband to Rachel Worthington. Two males of the proper age to be Rachel's known brother Elisha and possible brother Benjamin are included with Martha.

Rachel Wothington married James Anderson (ca.1790/19-Mar-1841) James (Jr.) and wife Rachel are clearly identified as the parents of Barnet by Barnet's "Age Book". The topics of controversy are:

Are the two James's the same person, and if not, who is James's father. About the time that a younger James would have come onto the scene, a James Jr. and James Sr. also begin showing up on the assessment rolls. It appears very likely that James Sr. & James son of Charles Sr. are the same person. If so, a Jr. most likely is the son of a Sr. and this James fits the generation guide lines for the father of Barnet. We do know from deeds and will, that this James lived and owned property on Muddy Creek.

Who was Rachel? One researcher clams that James (jr.) married Rachel Worthington. Another claims that Daniel, son of Charles Sr. married Rachel Worthington. Daniel died in 1804 and Sarah, wife of James Sr. died early. James (Jr.) & Rachel were married ca.1813. If so, Rachel had raised two families and two generations for the oldest son of Daniel & Rachel, Charles, had a family of his own in 1810.

Elisha Worthington, d.2-Sep-1836, leaving $20 to his sister Rachel Anderson. This verifies that it certainly is likely that one of the Rachiel's husbands, either Daniel or James, was Rachiel Worthington.

Marriage record for Harford Co. Md. Daniel Anderson to Rachel Wearin (Worthington?) 29-Feb-1785.

Until further evidence turns up, the most likely situation is that Rachel Worthington only married James (jr).

History of Rock County, Wisconsin, 1889 has a rather substantial article on Martin Dixon, husband of Patients Anderson. This article has sufficient substance to identify Patients Anderson as the daughter of James Anderson and Rachel Worthington, the same parents of Barnet Anderson. Since the article was written in the present tense, it is reasonable to assume that Patents Anderson Dixon knew the maiden name of her mother.

Benjamin Worthington (1810/    )

Just where Benjamin fits is not quite certain. We know that he owned land and lived near James Anderson. Further, he sold land to James Anderson. Both Benjamin and James lived and owned property on the Muddy Creek and branch of the Whitney. Original maps of this property and area are among Anderson Original papers. While most references are to Cumberland Twp., the area borders a narrow strip in Green Twp. between Cumberland and Whitney Twps.

Also, Benjamin married Mary Long, daughter of Richard Long and Granddaughter of Jeremiah Long. (see p.617 Leckey). While there were several Jeremiah Longs, it was probably Mary's brother Jeremiah Long that worked for Barnet Anderson, son of James Anderson in 1839-40, see Anderson workbook. James Anderson sold

property to Jeremiah Long on 1843.

I believe she was the widow of James Worthington, probably a son of Elisha Worthington who died in 1836, having a daughter Mary, a minor. She was a daughter of John and Margaret(Hufty) Moredock, and became second wife of George Moredock about 1835-1840"

(note: This Rachel has a brother Elisha, she would have been born about 1745-1755. This looks about one generation too early for the Rachel & Elisha in this search.) The Elisha spelling w/sister Rachel indicates a possible hit on a later generation.
