Kenneth played the drums for Mar-Ritz Pennsylvanians dance band and was an apprentice machinist when he met and married Marion. They bought a farm in Jefferson township, Fayette county in 1926 and that was their permanent residence all their lives. During the time they were farming, they frequently took in other children for periods at a time.
He worked in the mill as a machinist, then truck farmed their own farm and then back to the mill. For a year, he worked at the Weirton, W.Va. mill living away from home and coming back only on weekends. He was then offered a foreman job at the Monessen Works and he stayed there until he retired.
Lack of College Degree did not daunt Ken and he studied using Correspondence Courses to learn skills that he felt to be essential. Ken and Marion were active in Scouting most of their years. Ken as a Boy Scout Leader and Marion as a Girl Scout Leader.
The Outdoors provided strong enjoyment and was of significant importance to Ken. Camping, Hunting, Fishing, Trap & Skeet Shooting were the areas that he loved the most. Ken treated these activities with the same fervor and thoroughness that he did all other trades and skills. He studied them, read books and practiced, all resulting in the respect and acknowledgement by his peers that he was among the best in each of his skills.
